Set or change your password

Add an email-and-password sign-in after Google sign-in, change an existing password, and recover when you no longer know it.

Your Sign-in settings show either Set password or Change password. Adding a password gives an eligible Google account another way to sign in; changing a password replaces an existing one. Protected administrator accounts cannot save a password and must continue using their secured Google sign-in.

Find the password form

  1. Sign in to the Hands Console.
  2. Select Profile at the bottom of the sidebar, then go to Account → Profile → Sign-in. On a phone, use the round profile button beside the notification bell and scroll the account tabs sideways if needed.
  3. Under Email and password, choose Set password or Change password.

Choose Cancel to close the form without saving.

Set a password after Google sign-in

Use this path when Email and password says that no password is set yet.

  1. Enter a New password of 10 to 1,024 characters.
  2. Enter the same value under Repeat new password.
  3. Choose Save password.
  4. If the Console says your sign-in is too old, choose Sign in again, complete Google sign-in, return to this page and save the password within 15 minutes.

You must prove a recent Google sign-in because there is no current password to check. Setting a password does not remove Google sign-in.

Change an existing password

  1. Choose Change password.
  2. Enter your Current password.
  3. Enter a New password of 10 to 1,024 characters, then repeat it exactly.
  4. Choose Save password and wait for the confirmation.

If you do not know the current password, use Forgot your current password? instead. The English link opens the password-reset page; the Dutch Console opens its localized equivalent. Request a new reset email if an older link is invalid or expired.

What happens after saving?

  • Other signed-in devices and browsers are signed out. This browser receives a fresh session, so you can continue here.
  • Any password-reset links that were still open become invalid.
  • Hands attempts to send a security notice to your email address. The password can still be changed if that notice cannot be delivered, so rely on the on-screen result rather than the presence of an email.

A completed emailed password reset also invalidates other sessions and reset links. It sends you back to sign-in rather than signing you in automatically.

Errors and recovery

  • Passwords do not match: re-enter both new-password fields.
  • Too short or too long: use between 10 and 1,024 characters.
  • Current password is not correct: retry carefully or use Forgot your current password?
  • Sign in again: finish Google sign-in and repeat the set-password step within 15 minutes.
  • Too many attempts: stop retrying and wait before trying again.
  • Your sign-in details changed: refresh the page before submitting another change.
  • Password sign-in is refused when you save: protected administrator accounts cannot add or change a password here, even if the form is visible.

Do not repeatedly submit after an uncertain response. Refresh Account → Profile → Sign-in and check whether Email and password now says that a password is set.
