Computer or Environments: what's the difference?

Choose the visual desktop, terminal or code editor, and understand which Environment sections are available.

Your Hand has its own workspace. The Console gives you several ways to use it, depending on whether you need a visual application, a command line or a code editor.

Computer: use the visual desktop

Choose Computer when you want to see and control graphical applications, windows and the desktop of your Hand. This is the closest option to working on another computer through your browser.

Environments: work directly on projects

Choose Environments when you want to work with commands, repositories or project files. Its tab row contains four sections:

  • Terminal opens an interactive command line in the Hand’s workspace.
  • Background tasks is currently an informational placeholder. It does not yet show or control running commands.
  • Servers is currently an informational placeholder. SSH connections are not available from this section yet.
  • Code editor opens the browser-based editor for files in the Hand’s workspace when the editor is available on that Hand.

Seeing a section name does not by itself mean its service is available on every Hand. The selected Hand must be ready and support the relevant workspace tool.

Move between Environment sections

  1. Open the Hands Console and select the Hand you want to use.
  2. Choose Environments in the main navigation.
  3. Select Terminal, Background tasks, Servers or Code editor in the tab row.
  4. With keyboard focus in the tab row, use Left Arrow or Right Arrow to move one section, or Home and End to jump to the first or last section.
  5. Check the page that opens. Terminal and Code editor open their work surfaces when supported. Background tasks and Servers show their current availability notice instead of an active control.

The Console remembers the last Environment section selected in that browser. If you return and see a different section than expected, select the tab you need.

Which view should you choose?

What you want to do View
See and control a graphical app or desktop Computer
Run commands or keep a shell session open Environments → Terminal
Inspect Git changes beside a terminal Environments → Terminal
Browse or edit project files in an IDE Environments → Code editor
Preview, upload or download individual workspace files Files

If a workspace tool cannot open, first confirm that the correct Hand is selected and ready. A placeholder notice is not a connection error: that section is not an active workflow yet.
