Chat with your Hand

Ask questions, send messages and attach files. Learn when typing starts a voice call.

Use Chat in the Hands Console to give your Hand a task, ask a follow-up question or share information. Whether typing stays text-only or also starts a call depends on your Hand’s available features.

Send a message

  1. Open Chat in the Console and select the Chat tab.
  2. Enter your request in the message field at the bottom, for example: “Summarize my upcoming appointments.”
  3. Press Enter or the Send arrow. Use Shift+Enter to insert a new line.
  4. Follow the reply and any recorded actions in the conversation. Ask a follow-up if something is missing.

Important: for most Hands, sending a message when no call is active also starts a voice call. Your browser may ask for microphone access. During an existing call, typed messages become part of that call. Text-only chat without a call is available only on Hands specifically enabled for it; do not assume sending a message will be silent.

To speak instead, choose Call {Hand name}. See Call your Hand and configure voice.

Attach files

  1. Select + next to the message field, drag files into Chat, or paste an image.
  2. Review the attachments above the field; select one to preview it before sending.
  3. Send a clear instruction, such as “Summarize this PDF.”

You can attach up to 10 files per message, each up to 100 MB. A message can contain up to 16,000 characters. Very long pasted text may be attached as a text file instead.

Chat attachments are temporary inputs. They are not automatically saved under Files or Artifacts, and cannot be reopened after the call ends. Ask your Hand to save or deliver an output file if you need it later.

While your Hand is working

The conversation shows messages and, when available, actions or results. A status such as Delivery unconfirmed does not prove your request was carried out. Check the conversation or Tasks and results before sending it again.

To reuse a completed answer, select the copy icon at the end of your Hand’s reply. It copies the underlying text, including formatting and code.

You can leave Chat during a call. The floating call bar lets you return, mute the microphone or hang up. The call remains active until you end it or it is interrupted.

If Chat does not work

  • Browser not supported: try a current browser with microphone and WebRTC support.
  • Microphone permission denied: allow access in your browser and try again.
  • Hand not ready or account connection needed: follow the message in Chat. Choose Connect to {Hand name} if shown; see Voice settings.
  • No reply or uncertain delivery: first check whether a call is still active and whether there is a result under Tasks.
