Authority rings organize your Hand’s knowledge, from your fundamental decisions to work it can carry out independently. They describe what has authority within its knowledge. They are not technical access permissions that you switch on or off by clicking a ring.
Where to find the rings
- Open Chat → Memory in the Hands Console.
- Find the overview or the Starmap legend.
- Select the About authority rings information icon to read what each ring means and how pages enter it.
- Optionally select a ring to highlight its pages. Open a page to see its ring, status and provenance.
The overview groups pages under Yours (rings 1–3), Accepted and shared (4–5) and Your Hand’s (6).
The six rings
| Ring | Meaning | Who decides? |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Purpose | The goal and outcomes your Hand works toward. | You set the purpose; your Hand may suggest changes. |
| 2 · Constitution | Fundamental rules the Hand must follow. | Changes require your explicit decision. |
| 3 · Policies | Boundaries for decisions and actions. | You set policy; your Hand may suggest ways to work within it. |
| 4 · Golden paths | Agreed working methods, including reusable workflows. | Your Hand may propose a path; you accept changes to the path itself. |
| 5 · Current intent | The current shared goal or assignment. | You shape it together; your review determines direction. |
| 6 · Autonomous work | Working knowledge and capabilities used by your Hand. | Your Hand maintains these within the higher rings; you can correct it. |
The center (ring 0) is a visual anchor, not another way of granting rights. A page may also be unplaced, proposed or superseded. A proposal is not automatically a rule in force.
How do rings fill up?
Your Hand records relevant information as memory pages during its work. Some skills arrive with the Hand or are added by you. Not every conversation or chat message becomes a memory page. In Chat, explain goals and rules, review proposals and ask your Hand to save useful working knowledge.
Look at a page’s source and status. Its provenance can point to a conversation, upload or completed run. Its status distinguishes active knowledge from proposed or superseded material. If anything is uncertain, ask your Hand where it came from and whether it is still applicable.
What rights do these controls give you?
Selecting a ring only highlights or filters the display. It does not change authority, approve proposals or increase system access. Memory in the Console supports browsing, not directly editing or deleting pages. Share corrections and decisions through Chat, then check the resulting knowledge.
Authority rings are also separate from Read-only / Read & write in My Hand and from the permissions of individual integrations.
