Add a Skill with SKILL.md

Add a personal Skill by uploading a file, selecting a folder or pasting instructions, and learn what happens after saving.

A Skill describes a repeatable way for your Hand to approach a task. You can add your own SKILL.md or a Skill folder containing that file and supporting material. It appears under Personal and is saved in Files → Skills. Adding a Skill does not automatically execute it: your Hand must also support loading Skills from its workspace.

Upload a Skill folder or SKILL.md

  1. Open the Hands Console, select your Hand and go to Skills → Personal.
  2. Select the plus (+) button. Leave Upload selected.
  3. Choose Choose Skill folder or drag a folder onto the upload area. The folder must have a SKILL.md at its top level. For just one file, choose or one SKILL.md.
  4. Grant any browser permission to read the folder and review the selected file name and supporting-file count.
  5. Check the Command, such as /weekly-review. It starts with a letter or digit and can contain lowercase letters, digits and hyphens.
  6. Select Save skill. Your new Skill appears under Personal, and Open in Files shows where it is stored.

Uploading just SKILL.md saves its text. Uploading a folder also preserves supported supporting files, including images. SKILL.md must be 128 KB or smaller. A Skill folder can contain up to 200 supporting files, each up to 5 MB, with a combined limit of 8 MB including SKILL.md and a maximum folder depth of 8 levels.

Paste SKILL.md instructions instead

  1. In Skills → Personal, select +, then Paste text.
  2. Paste the SKILL.md content. You can include a name and description in the frontmatter.
  3. Check the proposed slash command and choose Save skill.

For example:

---
name: weekly-review
description: Draft my weekly review when I request it.
---

# Weekly review
Summarize my completed work and ask for missing details.

Pasting adds the instructions only; it does not attach extra files.

What happens after saving?

Your Skill appears in Personal and Files → Skills → [command]. Open its settings to choose whether your Hand may suggest it when relevant or use it only when you type its command. Neither setting promises autonomous execution. See Choose when your Hand uses a Skill.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot save: check the command and the file limits. A folder needs SKILL.md at its root, encoded as readable UTF-8 text.
  • Folder picker fails: try dragging the folder. Your browser may also request folder-reading permission.
  • Saved, but not usable: check the Skill details. Your Hand might not yet load workspace Skills. A built-in Skill with the same name also takes precedence; rename the personal Skill folder in Files.
  • Added the wrong Skill: open the personal Skill and choose Remove from this Hand. This deletes its folder and all files inside it.
